The Chosen is an incredible book about the life of two boys from two sects of Judaism. Danny Saunders is a son of a Rabbi (Reb Saunders) who is raised in pure silence, except for the Shabbats where the Talmund is studied. Reuven Malter is a son of a professor, who is more of a liberal Jew.
In the beginning, Danny and Reuven hated each other, for no reason it appears to be, and during a baseball game, Danny hit a ball directly into Reuven's face, where his glasses shattered and a piece of glass logged itself into his eye.
The first bit of the novel follows Reuven and his life in the hospital, where he learns some lessons, and the friendship between Reuven and Danny gets its start. This is integral, because it is how both boys start to learn the lessons of life, and religious tolerance. Even though they are of the same religion, the differences are incredible in how they were raised, and how the Talmund is interpreted.
You get to travel into the lives of these two boys, where the excomunication of the Malters plays a great part on how the two get to function as friends. The two are very different, Danny who is in line to become the Rabbi after his father dies, does not want to be, while Reuven that is all he could ever see himself being.
I wont spoil the end, but I encourage you to pick it up!

I don't actually blog here.
Though I suppose I might start.
I blog over at Livejournal, but that is friends locked. And I suppose that if I blog here, someone random might find it.
Though I suppose I can post my book reviews here. I love to read, and am very anal when it comes to the demolishing of the English language. For example: "Waz up" or "Wat wit u" etc. It angers me to the point that I want to shoot someone.
So maybe I will do that. Maybe I will post my book reviews. After all you can't go wrong right?
So Books that I should talk about; really the ones I've read and remember.
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Paint It Black by Janet Fitch
Evening by Susan Minot
Storm Front by Jim Butcher
Dracula by Bram Stoker
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
Blood Price by Tanya Huff
Dead Until Dark by Charline Harris
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Hard Times by Charles Dickson
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
The Chosen by Chaim Potok
There are some others, I just can not remember what I've read.
Well, we'll start eventually! Just not at this moment!
